MRI results....

You know the saying "When it rains it pours?" well, I think its safe to say we are being dumped on.

The MRI showed two options....

Option1: the "Enhancements" and swelling are caused by post radiation syndrome. If thats the case then they want to do a Spinal Tap to check for malignant cells.

Option 2: the "Enhancements" are NEW TUMORS. It is rare, but can happen, only approx. 10% of DIPG kids have had new tumor growth. If this is the case, not much will change because there is not much they can do. Unfortunately, It will add some complications and symptoms. They would not do radiation again but would maybe add another type of chemotherapy.

We will hopefully know more tomorrow once we get word back from the neurosurgen.

The MRI also showed pressure on his ventricles. Regardless of whether he has Post Radiation Syndrome or new Tumors, there is a good chance he will need a shut placed. Again, waiting to get word from the Neurologist hopefully tomorrow. The shunt should alleviate some if not most of his symptoms.

He is currently getting his first dose of IV Temodar. It takes about 90 minutes. He will go in every day this week then have 23 days off. They are giving him 50% of the original dose to see how he tolerates it. Fingers crossed he can do it. Our "quality of life" options have about run dry.

As Eric said, "We just keep getting kicked in the teeth."

Today, I feel like Im talking about someone else's child. No way can this be our life. This absolutely crazy.

I am praying for you. Your family has made such an impact in my life, and we don't know each other. I look for new blog entries daily and think about you and Atticus several times per day. You are a special family and have helped me appreciate the goodness in my life.
Hugs,
Jaime from Maryland

I second what Jaime from Maryland has said. I think about you and your family more than once a day. I pray for you and you are making such an impact on so many. I look forward to your posts each day and you are the first blog I go to each night before bed. I love you and yet don't even know you.

Love from Washington State

Praying for you and your family. What a sweet little boy you have, and my heart breaks that anyone has to go through this. I have two children and I can't imagine your pain.

Thank you for sharing your story. I love to read your blog and see all the pictures and great things you do.

Hugs to you
