.. Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma..

Friday, January 13, 2012, at approximately 9am our 4 year old, Atticus was diagnosed with an inoperable and terminal brain tumor. Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma.

This blog is a documentation of our family and journey. Our 4 year olds courageous battle with cancer. A journey of a dad. A mom. A fighter. And a little brother. A family of four who has now more than ever, learned that life is about quality not quantity. Our goal is to make as many memorable moments as possible and to love each other to our fullest ability.

We have been given the unique opportunity to raise an amazing boy with a special mission. And as hard as it is at times, we are trying to embrace it as best we can. Embrace the special time we have with Atticus.

Thank you for your love support and prayers.

..ATTICUS ERIC HANSEN..
December 17, 2007
to May 27, 2012

Our sweet Atticus, returned to our loving Heavenly Father Sunday May 27, 2012. Our prayers were answered as he passed away peacefully at home in mommy and daddy's arms, snuggled in his BYU blanket.

Born December 17, 2007. A beautiful 7 pound 8 ounce bundle of joy. He had a head full of hair, the most beautiful color of copper red you have ever seen!

We have had 4 AMAZING years with him. Growing. Loving. Watching. Crying. Laughing. Praising. And last but not least learning. Atticus has taught us so much. He has proven that great things come in small packages. He has been a true missionary to us all. He loved reading his Book of Mormon, singing primary songs, and always said the sweetest prayers.

Atticus was wise behind his years and too smart for his own good! He had a love for life that was contagious. No matter where he went or what he was doing he always had something witty and funny to say. Putting a smile on your face and leaving you thinking, " Is he really only 4 years old?" He was ALL boy with an obsession with sports. Baseball and golf being his favorites. He loved to be outside riding his bike down the ally, looking for treasure, and racing cars. He loved his cars. Atticus was the worlds best big brother and was very protective over Isaac. They were the best of buds.

Atticus fought a very courageous battle. He faced DIPG with dignity patience and a great deal of bravery. He had an amazing ability to stay happy and upbeat, and chose to focus on the things he could do rather than the things he couldn't. He never complained. He is the strongest person we know. He taught us all to never give up. To Love more. To embrace each day and to rely on the Lord.

His life was short. His battle with cancer even shorter, 4 1/2 months. But in that short amount of time, he touched so many peoples lives. We love more, because of him. He is truly amazing and is one of Heavenly Fathers finest.

We want to thank the many many people that have served prayed for and loved our family. We want to thank our amazing Oncology Doctors at Medical City Children's hospital.. We love you. Thank you for loving our son. Thank you for being tender with our family. We want to thank Marianne, Amanda, Wendy, and Kammie... you are the best nurses the world will ever know. Our medical team made a very tragic journey do-able. We will forever be grateful for all of you and will always have a special place for you in our hearts. Always.

Our hearts are broken, our bodies ache, but we couldn't be happier for Atticus. He is free from pain. Free from cancer. Free to play as much baseball as his heart desires. We love you sweet boy. More than words can say. We cannot wait until the day we meet again, hold you in our arms, and kiss your sweet cheeks. We are better people because of you.

 xoxo, Daddy Mommy and Chunk

*** We donated Atticus' tumor for research. The Autopsy report showed that he did not have DIPG but a PNET (Primitive neuroectodermal tumor) a more aggressive type of tumor ***
